The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays are back at it Monday night for Game 2 of the ALDS at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, after an off day Sunday. The Yankees dominated Boston in their AL Wild Card Series to advance to the ALDS to face fellow AL East rivals the Rays, but Game 1 on Saturday was far from how New York performed in the previous round.

The Yankees’ lineup ran into Rays All-Star right-hander Drew Rasmussen in Game 1, who carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning before allowing a double to Austin Wells, who ended up getting thrown out at third base to end the inning while trying to stretch it into a triple. Rasmussen finished his outing with eight scoreless innings and 10 strikeouts, with Bryan Baker recording the save and Jonathan Aranda accounting for the only run of the game with his third-inning solo home run in the Rays’ 1-0 shutout victory.

Veteran right-hander Freddy Peralta will look to shut down New York’s lineup Monday night just as Rasmussen did in Game 1. Peralta had a down year overall, but he ended the regular season strong, posting a 4-0 record with a 0.96 ERA and 0.89 WHIP across five starts in September.

Peralta will be going toe-to-toe with likely 2026 American League Cy Young Award winner Cam Schlittler of the Yankees, who’s set to make his second start of this year’s MLB playoffs. The young right-hander owned a 1.95 ERA and 0.92 WHIP and recorded 239 strikeouts during the regular season. He also pitched 6.1 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts in a win over Boston in the AL Wild Card Series.

Yankees vs. Rays MLB Playoff Predictions

Our Yankees vs. Rays prediction below for Game 2 comes from the Stats Hub at Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook, which offers baseball betting insights and trends, so make sure to check it out while placing wagers:

Rays vs. Yankees Best Bet: Under 0.5 1st Inning Total Runs (-165)

The Stats Hub notes that there has been no run scored during the first inning in each of the Yankees’ last six games. That trend could continue Monday night.

There wasn’t much offense at all in Game 1 between the Yankees and Rays on Saturday. The Yankees were shut out and nearly no-hit, and even though the Rays scored a run in the win, Tampa Bay’s offense totaled only five hits and went 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.

Now Cam Schlittler is taking the mound for the Yankees in Game 2, and we already mentioned how dominant he was during the regular season, in his first start this postseason, and through his first three career playoff outings. We also mentioned that Freddy Peralta didn’t quite have his best season on the mound, but he ended the regular season on a high note and has allowed only three runs over his last six starts.

Both lineups feature plenty of offensive firepower, but it’s hard to ignore how well these two starting pitchers have been throwing the ball.
