The National League’s top-seeded Milwaukee Brewers head to San Diego, California, with a 2-0 lead in their NLDS matchup against the Padres for Game 3 Tuesday night at Petco Park. The Brewers have a chance to advance to the NLCS for the second consecutive year with a win, while the Padres will be fighting to keep their season alive with the help of their home crowd.

The Brewers earned a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed in the NL and home-field advantage throughout the MLB playoffs after finishing the regular season with the best record in the league. While that extra time off during the Wild Card Series has hurt teams with a first-round bye plenty of times in the past, it hasn’t slowed down Milwaukee, which won the first two games of the NLDS against San Diego.

Both games have been one-run contests so far, with Brewers catcher William Contreras playing the hero in Game 1 with his go-ahead solo home run in the seventh inning as Milwaukee went on to win 3-2. The Brewers followed that with a dramatic 4-3 victory in Game 2 when 22-year-old outfielder Jackson Chourio delivered a walk-off two-RBI single against Padres superstar closer Mason Miller.

The Brewers are giving the start to right-hander Dustin May for Game 3. May went 7-9 with a 4.70 ERA across 31 regular season starts between Milwaukee and St. Louis. Tuesday night will be May’s first playoff appearance since he appeared in seven games with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2020.

The Padres will counter with right-hander Nick Pivetta, who missed a large portion of the season due to injury before making his return on Sept. 7. He posted a 2-0 record with a 1.45 ERA across four starts in September and has pitched really well for San Diego since signing with the team ahead of the 2025 season, owning a 16-7 record with a 2.87 ERA and 0.99 WHIP over the last two regular seasons. Pivetta already made a start for the Padres in the NL Wild Card Series, allowing one run over 3.1 innings against the Chicago Cubs on Sept. 30.

Padres vs. Brewers Best Bet: Fernando Tatís Jr. Over 0.5 Runs (-105)

Fernando Tatís Jr. is the tone-setter at the top of the Padres’ lineup, and when a dynamic player like him who’s a major threat on the base paths reaches safely, there’s a good chance he’ll end up coming around to score. Tatís’ 96 runs scored during the regular season were near the top of MLB, and while it’s still a small sample size, his four runs scored during the playoffs so far are tied for the second-most.

Tatís is batting only .176 this postseason, but he has a stolen base and has scored the four runs mentioned above. He scored three runs in the Padres’ Game 1 win over the Cubs in the NL Wild Card Series and then scored a run in Game 2 of the NLDS this past Sunday. Tatís has also scored at least one run in three of his last five games dating back to the regular season.

  • Padres vs. Brewers Player Prop Pick for NLDS Game 3: Fernando Tatís Jr. Over 0.5 Runs (-105)
